The Mask
A man doing a dangerous and difficult job has to wear a mask for protection. Suddenly he tears off his mask and as a consequence, dies. He is not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and he did not mean to commit suicide. What made him tear off his mask?

The man is a deep sea diver. A diver at great depth can be affected by a phenomenon commonly referred to as "rapture of the deep." This condition causes euphoria, and the affected person loses grasp on reality and becomes convinced that equipment, such as his mask, is not necessary and should be discarded.
